1. What cookies and browser storage are

Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Local storage and session storage are similar places in your browser where a site can keep settings. Session storage is cleared when you close the tab; cookies and local storage stay until they expire or you delete them.

2. Strictly necessary (always on)

These make the site work and cannot be switched off on the site.

  • csrf_token (deletefootprints.ai): protects your tool requests against cross-site forgery. Expires after 24 hours.
  • df.batch (session storage): keeps track of a batch of uploads in the current tab. Cleared when you close the tab.
  • Google consent cookies, such as FCCDCF and FCNEC (EEA, UK and Switzerland only): remember your consent choice. Up to 13 months.

3. Preferences (always on, set only by your choices)

  • PHPSESSID (deletefootprints.ai): remembers the interface language you chose, for this visit. Deleted when you close the browser.
  • metadataAppLanguage (local storage): remembers the language you picked. Stays until you clear site data.
  • textCleanerSettings:4 (local storage): remembers your Text Cleaner options. Never contains your text. Stays until you clear site data.

4. Analytics

Set by Google Analytics on every visit to measure how the site is used (see the Privacy Policy, section 3). To block them, use the opt-out add-on or your browser settings (section 6).

  • _ga (deletefootprints.ai): tells one browser from another. 2 years.
  • _ga_* (deletefootprints.ai): keeps the state of your visit. 2 years.

5. Advertising

Set by Google for AdSense, Google Ads and Google Analytics advertising features, to show ads, limit how often you see them, measure them, personalise them and build remarketing lists for ads about our apps. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google asks for your consent before AdSense uses these cookies.

  • __gads, __gpi (deletefootprints.ai): ad delivery and measurement. 13 months.
  • __eoi (deletefootprints.ai): ad security and fraud prevention. 6 months.
  • Cookies on Google domains such as doubleclick.net and google.com (for example IDE, NID): personalised ads and remarketing. Up to 13 months.

Google lists the cookies it uses in How Google uses cookies. Other ad vendors certified by Google may set their own cookies when they serve an ad.

6. Your choices

  • EEA, UK and Switzerland: accept or refuse advertising cookies in Google's consent message, and change your choice at any time through the "Privacy and cookie settings" link at the bottom of the page.
  • Personalised ads: turn them off in My Ad Center, and for other vendors at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Google Analytics: install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Your browser: block or delete cookies and site data in its settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies stops the tools from working.
